Organising people involved!

Izzy's friend Jess, is the owner of Oscar (the dog) and lives on Corbets Tey road which is where we will film our short film. Therefore we have organised times when Jess is available as this is when we can film with the dog. Any other days we will have to film the scenes where the dog is not featured; for example in the sweet shop. Other than Jess it is also important to organise dates and times with my sister Lily who will play the role of Annie as a child.

Meet Oscar!

When decided what dog to use for our piece, we chose Oscar! Oscar is a very loveable dog who is very well trained. The fact that he is well behaved will allow me and Izzy to film with him easily, he is also a very big dog, causing him to be huggable. This gives him and the whole film the cute factor!

Adapting our idea!

When developing our idea for our main brief, me and Izzy changed our storyline to make it more effective. We have decided that the idea will be a young girl who leaves home after an argument with her family. Throughout the piece, Annie will have flashbacks when walking past places of sentimental value, these flashbacks being her happy with her family. The ending will be, the last flashback of her blowing out her birthday cake, to a zoomed in jump cut to her blowing her hands for warmth, discovering she is homeless to the audience.

Feedback from our presentation

Today, Izzy and I pitched our 5 ideas to the class using Google Slides Q&A which enabled the class to ask questions throughout the pitch which we then answered at the end. We also held a vote so we could identify which idea was most popular. Concept 4 won by 4 votes and so we have decided to go with this concept which involves a young girl and her dog.The family is falling apart, her mum and dad are fighting every night now and her mum has resorted to drinking whilst the dad works late to avoid coming home. She sits in her bedroom with her dog, her best friend. The film is seen through the dogs eyes and on a late night walk one day she sees a homeless lady begging. She reaches into her pocket but then looks down at her dog and has a better idea. She knows how lonely she would feel without her dog and so she goes to the rescue centre and gives her a dog and a blanket. The lady is so grateful to have a friend. Every night when the young girl goes on a walk she stops to see how they’re getting on. The theme for this story is; Random act of kindness. Looking through the questions put forward by the class, it was clear that people were worried about how we would film with a dog however we have decided to use a go pro which we will attach to the dog. It may prove more difficult than filming with humans however we will ensure that there is a balance of filming done by the go pro but also from the girls perspective and on the outside looking in so that we don't rely too heavily on the dog.

Production Planning

Izzy and I have produced a weekday plan where we have established which days of the week are best for filming, Monday: Both film until 6pm Tuesday: Both edit until 5pm Wednesday: Both film from 2:30 until 7pm Thursday: Both film until 7pm We will not be filming every day but these are the times we are available for filming. However we also need to factor in when the characters are able to film and also when Oscar (the dog we are borrowing) is free to be used. Using a dog that lives in Upminster limits where we can film as we are unable to drive him to various locations as and when we feel. Therefore we will no longer be using South Weald as a location as it will not be suitable. To solve this problem we have come up with local locations to suit the storyline, I plan on taking Recces of these locations by friday this week. Locations include: •Cranham Tandori, Avon road, Upminster (derelict shop) •Upminster Park, Corbets Tey Road •Miss Sweets, Corbets Tey Road, Upminster •Oscar (the dog's) house, Corbets Tey Road, Upminster

Character Profiles!

Idea 1- Main Characters

Name: Lily

Age: 16
Physical description: A young pretty girl with ginger hair and green eyes. She has a bland fashion sense and a petite physique and is around 5ft 5.
Character Traits: A quiet and timid individual who keeps herself to herself. She doesn’t like to socialise with anyone apart from her best friend Joe. She will never be labelled as the ‘popular girl’, and she couldn’t think of anything worse.
Background: brought up in a stable family with both parents working good and reliable jobs. Due to her parents working 24/7 Lily is alone a lot and her parents don’t even realise her depression and horrible situation at school. This causes her to feel as if no one cares.

 

Name: Amelia (Lily’s bully)

Age: 16

Physical description: bleach blonde hair, blue eyes. She is always wear the latest designer clothes and wears a full face of expensive make up every day to school. Amelia is in good shape with a nice figure and is around 5ft 7.

Character Traits: A very bossy and controlling girl who has a clan of friends who are at her beg and all. Amelia talks to everyone badly including her parents and teachers, she has a really bad attitude. However, all of the nastiness is a front because inside she is a vulnerable little girl who feels alone at home and wants to feel love.
Background: Amelia has been brought up in a wealthy family with younger brother and two parents. However, her younger brother annoys her constantly which makes her isolate herself in her room most of the evening. Also, her mother is very pushy towards her and this is the main reason why Amelia bullies people, due to her manipulative mother.

 

Name: Joe (Lily’s best friend)

Age: 16


Physical description: A small skinny young boy with long brown hair and brown eyes. Joe wars glasses and is always seen with his camera filming anything and everything. His style is very scruffy looking because he doesn’t care what anybody thinks of him.

Character traits: Joe is a very caring boy who has so much love for Lily. He is constantly filing her and things that are important to him. He doesn’t care that he isn’t popular and always focuses hard on his education.

Background: Joe’s mum and dad have split up but he always keeps a smile on his face. He has an amazing relationship with them both and the parents are very good friends. Both parents aren’t wealthy but they both have jobs that pay the bills.

 

Idea 2- Main Characters

Name: Rebecca

Age: 17

Physical description: Brown hair and brown eyed young girl. Rebecca has a quirky fashion sense and cool nose piercing with a beautiful face. She is a tall and slim girl for her age.

Character traits: Rebecca has a rebellious nature and is never afraid to try new things, which gets her into trouble. She doesn’t care about school so never tries and was drinking and smoking at a very young age.

Background: Rebecca’s mum and dad are together however aren’t in love as her mum is sleeping with a young and more attractive man. Rebecca knows this secret therefore holds it against her mum to let her do whatever she wants whenever she wants to. Her dad is away for work a lot so doesn’t even make much effort with Rebecca.

Name: Ronny (the boyfriend)

Age: 19

Physical description: Long brown hair that he always wears in a man bun or ponytail with brown eyes. Ronny has a much chiselled bone structure and always looks rocky with his leather jacket. He’s very tall with a muscular body.

Character traits: Ronny is very similar to Rebecca due to him not caring about anything. He has a very rebellious nature and is always getting into trouble. He possesses a very flirtatious attribute meaning he has many girls after him.

Background: He doesn’t live with his parents since they moved abroad together which caused him to drug deal to pay the bills. Ronny now lives with his older friend where their flat consists of drugs, drink and girls most nights.

Idea 3- Main Characters

Name: Phoebe

Age: 18

Physical description: Phoebe is an average height and weight teen with brown hair and big green eyes. She wears glasses constantly and has a normal fashion sense, always wearing jeans and trainers. Phoebe wears make up to school but very simple everyday mascara and bronzer, making her blend in with the crowd.

Character Traits: Phoebe is such a kind and loving girl who would help anyone as best as she can. She has always had a crush on Sammy and therefore has an embarrassed persona when he is around. Overall she is just a lovely girl who wants to do well in life.

Background: Phoebe has been brought up in a sustainable home with a loving family of a mum and dad and a little sister, who she loves dearly. Her parents are very motivational; therefore they tell Phoebe to study every night so that she will have a bright future.

 

Name: Sammy

Age: 18

Physical description: Sammy has blonde wavy hair and beautiful blue eyes. He is the head of the rugby team so therefore has a very muscular physique. He has very tanned skin and is around 6ft tall.

Character traits: Sammy is the popular kid in school, so when he is with his friends he is very intimidating and loud. However, as Sammy gets to know Phoebe we begin to see his sensitive side and his caring side, and also the fact that he feels trapped with his obnoxious girlfriend. 

Background: Sammy comes from a normal family, his dad works away a lot so he takes the masculine role within the household a lot of the time. He has a passion for rugby and has his whole life, therefore he practices a lot at him in his garden, teaching his under brother so new skills.

 

Name: Jessica

Age: 18

Physical description: Jessica is a blonde bomb shell! Everything about her is fake, from her bleach blonde hair to her fake nails. She is tall and slim, and always has the latest fashion and phone gadget, from bank of mum and dad of course.

Character traits: Jessica’s main priority is looking good and making sure she is the most popular girl in school and that she has the hottest boyfriend from the rugby team (Sammy). She is very patronising and manipulative and kicks up a fuss if she doesn’t get her own way.

Background: Jessica’s mum and dad have always been very wealthy with jobs as top lawyers in a top law firm. This has cause Jessica to get whatever she wants, when she wants it. Jessica being spoilt has got so out of control that her parents are frightened to tell her no, due to her tantrums.

Idea 3- He’s out of my league

An “uncool” girl named Phoebe has the biggest crush on the popular rugby player named Sammy. Phoebe confesses about her crush through the use of a diary that is commentated over the short film using her voice. Sammy sits next to Phoebe in science class and one day asks her for his help. They begin tutoring lesson, however Sammy’s popular girlfriend Jessica becomes jealous and tries to publicly humiliate Phoebe when she goes through her locker and finds the diary. After showing the whole school what Phoebe had been saying about Sammy, he breaks up with her popular girlfriend and decides to spend more time with Phoebe, he then eventually falls for her and they get into a relationship.

Brainstorming

Idea 2- Love is my drug

Teenage girl, Rebecca is introduce into a world of drugs and partying at the age of 17 with her rebellious friends always looking for fun. Rebecca meets an older boyfriend named Ronny (19 years old), she is swept off her feet by his bad boy, sex nature. Her obsession with him leads to her helping him sell his drugs at local house parties and nightclubs along with her deluded friends. All is going well for Rebecca until she sells a vulnerable teenage girl a dodgy ecstasy pill and it kills her. Police investigations begin at the school she attends and her and her friends all try to cover up the story. Ronny brakes up with her when this happens to attempt to hide his drug dealing tracks. As the story continues, we see a change in the fun friendship group, as all the friends fall out due to stress of creating the same story of what happened that night. The ending leads to all of the kids, included the older boyfriend Ronny getting caught for dealing, due to the best friend of the girl who died finding out Rebecca sold the pill, therefore she reported them all to the police.

Ideas for main-brief 1

Idea 1- The End

Short Film about bullying. It will be filmed in school and will be about a girl who is getting bullied. Her name is Lily, and the film will begin with many POV shots of her walking round school and the popular girl of the school, bullying and teasing her. The shots will also consist of Joe her best friend filming her, he does this as a hobby and enjoys filming her naturally. The POV shots continue throughout the beginning, this will introduce the characters, until the point when the bullying gets too much and we watch her overdose and kill herself. The story will then unfold, by the POV being discovered as a secret camera that her best friend Joe, told her to wear to prove the bullies wrong until it was too late. As the film continues Joe releases the film footage to the media and news reports. This leads to the bully getting named and shamed as we take a look into the life of the bully, Amelia. We then find out Amelia’s personal problems with Lily that caused her to want to bully her. We see Amelia become hated by everyone, however she watches the footage and asks for mental help and makes a med with the family of Lily and tries to move on with her life.
