Buddy Feedback

After making the changes that my Izzy's family suggested, we then showed our peers at school the rough cut of my short film. This taught me that  some scenes just confused the storyline. They said that having the step dad there just confused the storyline and so I decided to eliminate this idea altogether. This meant changing the voiceover aswell as deleting the scene where Annie gets annoyed at her mum for drinking again and also when Annie writes a note to her mum about how she can't live with him anymore. After making these changes I should have come up with a short film that appeals to my target audience and also results in audience pleasures.

Film Poster Feedback

After read the feedback I was given, it was clear that my first poster was liked more by the group of people that analysed it. The theme of the poster is a sketch. The poster highlights that the short film is someones life story, therefore drawings and sketches connotes a personal diary which illustrates the narrative. This may be very difficult to do for our poster, as I don't have the best drawing skills!

Prop List

Today I made a prop list to see which props are confirmed for use and which ones aren't. If they're confirmed on the table it also means that we have them ready to film.

As I've never used any kind of Photoshop software bfore, i decided to go to Youtuvbe for some tips before I atempt to create my film poster.
The video below is one of many tutorials I watched on Youtube, and they really helped expand my knowledge of the software.

Invisible People Charity

When looking at the purpose of my short film, I understood that the vital social message of Buddy was neglect which leads to teenagers leaving home.
With this is mind, I decided to research some charitys that we could associate our short film with. After a lot of research I came across a charity called 'Invisible People.'

Charities like Invisible people give vulnerable people a purpose in life and so I felt it was relevent to include at the end of my short film. When pitching this idea to some friends who are within my target audience they felt this idea would give the film a true purpose and would appeal to them as a reuslt. And also that it could help similiar people speak about their home situation and get the help they need.

Sign In Sheet

This is a list of some of the times we came in to do some editing! Every single time is not on there, due to us completely forgetting to put our names down and it doesn't include the time in lessons we had. However, if one of us had a free and the other person didn't, me or Izzy would still come in and try to develop the main-brief, even if it was just watching it over and making notes, it still helped us to develop the ending product.

First Day Filming

Today is our first day of filming, we have confirmed with the drama teacher who will be playing the Dad and we have also confirmed with Jess who owns Oscar. With regards to future planning Izzy has contacted Olivia Batty who is a year 8 student at Coopers and have a list of the evenings she is free and we now also have a copy of Jess' timetable to organise if we can film during school at any time. We aim to have all our filming done by the 25th of November; including anything that needs re-filming.

Filming

Today Icalled Caffé Gelato and asked for permission to film there next week; they were more than happy to and initially thought we had called up the wrong place as they could not believe we wanted to use their location to film in. Now we have permission, we can start to organise some days to film as we only have 5 weeks to film and edit before submitting our short film.

Script Update

Me and Izzy have been working on a script. We want the audience to understand Anie's struggles, however without giving too much away with the dialogue. We feel that more drafts are needed to finally get the elemnet of both.

Location Change

Today I called Miss Sweets to ask for permission to film in their store however the number was not recognised. After this we discovered that the shop has recently closed down, therefore we have been researching for a new location to film the scene.

After hard consideration, we have chose to film in Café Gelato which is actually much closer to the park and also Jess' house however the younger Annie will have to buy an ice cream as oppose to sweets. As buying an ice cream in winter is an unusual choice we have decided to make her tradition; something her and her father used to do every Sunday when he was alive and so now she continues the tradition with Buddy. I used Google maps to reveal what the shop looks like and its where-abouts with regards to Jess' house and the park.

Trial Shots

Me and Izzy recently filmed some trial shots, which we then uploaded to Youtube. Some changes may be made for the main brief, after getting some feedback from peers.

Blog Feedback

Though this feedback is quite positive I know there are certainly some things that I can improve about my blog to make it to the level 4 I want.

I can improvements by making more time management posts for the future- and adding in several time management posts further back in my blog. I also need to show some more research into similar real media products. I can do this by completely more textual analysis's of short films and also watching them for inspiration for my piece.

Film Day!

Today me and Izzy decided to film a Vlog to explain all the changes we have made from our original idea.

To Do List

I created this to do list over half term and so far have completed 3 out of the 14 tasks. Izzy and I are currently working on our animatics however our narrative is too short and so we are working on adding another scene. Once we have developed our new scene and added it to our storyboard we are then able to finish the script and so we will then be able to embed our animatics on to the blog. I also need to collect evidence for the extra time I have been spending on my blog and animatics.

Textual Analysis- Kidulthood

The title itself is quite bold and easy to read. The fact that one letter in the main title is lower case gives it a childish feel and generally shows the message of the characters going through their personal journey of adolescence. Also the tagline suggests where the characters are in line, it also hints of a sequel to the film which would engage the audience to watch the film carefully to find clues as to what may happen in the sequel. The main text is bigger because it is the main element of the poster and needs to be visualised clearly.
The film poster portrays the film to be violent, due to the male in the hooded jumper holding a baseball bat. Furthermore the use of costume in the poster depicts the stereotypical idea that teenage boys in hooded jumpers and body warmers are a danger to society. The main image is of the characters placed in a group. This highlights the gang conflicts within the film.  There is the sun braking through behind the characters, which could signify the teenagers growing up into adulthood. The colour scheme consists of dark and dull colour which reflects the darkness of the narrative.
