Promotion Package

Promotion refers to raising customer awareness of a product or brand and generating sales. The package I have created to reach out to my target audience includes;

•A film review which will be published in STUDIO's online magazine

•A film poster which will be shared on Facebook to create awareness of distressed Teenagers through the charity; Invisible people.

•A 5 minute short film which will be entered into the London film festival

The purpose of a promotional package is to advertise a film before its release date however as Buddy is a small-budget short film; it will not be released in cinemas but will be published onto Facebook. This is featured on the film poster, in the bottom right showing the Facebook logo. Also the poster contains the Facebook website address, with the shortcut link to go to Buddy’s page.

Me and Izzy recently set up a Facebook page to help advertise and distribute our product, I will follow and like short film pages like the London Film Festival. Unfortunately as my budget is small I will not be able to pay for extra advertising however I hope that by reaching out to similar pages, my product will be liked and shared with those who are within my target audience.

Rule of Thirds

What is the Rule of Thirds?

The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) so that you have 9 parts. As follows:

The rule of thirds 1

As you’re taking an image you would have done this in your mind through your viewfinder or in the LCD display that you use to frame your shot.

With this grid in mind the ‘rule of thirds’ now identifies four important parts of the image that you should consider placing points of interest in as you frame your image.

Not only this – but it also gives you four ‘lines’ that are also useful positions for elements in your photo.

The rule of thirds 2

The theory is that if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally.

Studies have shown that when viewing images that people’s eyes usually go to one of the intersection points most naturally rather than the center of the shot – using the rule of thirds works with this natural way of viewing an image rather than working against it.

Film Review Update

Using this particular Photoshop software for creating a film review has been very helpful as you can use a ruler tool to make sure the columns are symmetrical to each other, making it look like a professional magazine film review.

Poster Update

Today I have been discovering more things with the Photoshop Software. As you can see on the right, I have realised that there are layer effects, which have allowed the font colour to not get lost in the background.

Auditions

Survey Feedback

Due to 66.7% of the people stating they watch films for entertainment, this has allowed me to discover that my short film needs to be as engaging as possible, to allow the audience to not become bored and therefore be entertained.
The feedback from the last question was very interesting, as people find acting the most important elemnet, me and Izzy have decided to hold auditions for the characters part.

Survey Feedback

The most liked genre of film from my target audience was drama, highlighting why a drama would be ideal for our short film. However, due to the our piece not being able to be viewed in a cinema or on T.V, our piece will be shown online, with a 22.2 percentage.

Survey Feedback

For some research on my target audience, I decided to use Google Forms to create a survey which would help me with my understanding of my potential target audience.
The majority of people were teenage girls, aged 16-19. This age and gender would be a good target audience for the narrative of Buddy as the short film is sensitive and more feminine.

Animatics

We understnad our animatics does not reveal the time scale of our short film as accurately as it should be because we are unable to accurately predict the length of each scene. However, we are adding some scene so that we will definitely hhave 5 minutes in the end.
